Behcet's disease

Named after Hulushi Behcet - a Turkish dermatologist who described the syndrome

Patients with this unpleasant condition have a torrid time. They even have a good support website with a wealth of useful Behcet information

The underlying problem is a systemic vasculitis. This manifests as

• mouth and genital ulcers
• uveitis
• erythema nodosum
• venous thrombosis

Associated with HLA B5

Seen in populations who live along the old silk route (japan through to Turkey)
