Good morrrrrning

There is a variant of Guillain-Barre syndrome called Miller-Fisher

It is rare and is characterised by a triad of:
  • ophthalmoplegia
  • ataxia
  • loss of tendon reflexes

90% get anti GQ1b antibodies

Here is a little pic to help recall. This fisher (by the mill) didn't see to regain his footing. He lost his footing due to his ataxia and had no tendon reflexes to save him

Don't forget that in classical Guillain-Barre autonomic and pulmonary neuropathy may prove fatal. So monitor their vital capacity (for the lung function) and consider early immunoglobulins and plasmapharesis (the mainstay of treatments)

For those of you who are doing exams it is worth noting that those presentations that follow Campylobacter jejuni infections have an overall worse prognosis

Have a great morning
