Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome


(actually nothing to do with whisks)

WA protein defect is inherited (X linked recessive, so most are boys)

That protein is important in cytoskeletal function - which means that some cells ain't got the right skeleton

Translating into

  • thrombocytopenia with small platelets
  • Infections (low IgM and cell mediated immunity)
  • eczema
  • malignancies
  • autoimmune diseases
